Drum mic placement (2 mics)

I have a garage-band type band going, and we just want to record our songs to get a demo tape and whatever. Basically, we have two (cheap) mics for the drums, PG48's that we picked up for $15 each. I need to know where to hang/place them around the drumset. What we are doing right now is hanging one kind of over the toms and right cymbal, and the other near the bass drum down low behind the snare and hi hat. Its not bad, but whats the recommended placement?

I have tons of other recording questions but ill put them in the appropreate forums, thanks a bunch.

If you've got two of the same mics, you may want to try a stereo pair. I'd try a stereo pair, in front of the kick, down lowish (~3 feet off the ground and 3ish feet in front of the kick).

A lot of possibilities... maybe a mic inside or in front of kick and another as a mono overhead. The key with the mono overhead is to mount the mic a bit lower so that the snare sound really cuts through on that mic.
