Cubasis MIDI

I would Like to add MIDI tracks to my Cubasis songs but cannot figure out how. I create a part, edit it in the score window and then when I play it back there is no sound. I am using a US-224 and the internal MIDI Microsoft GW thingy for the MIDI sounds. Do I need an external MIDI device? If someone could please clarify what I need to do it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

p.s. I should mention that I use Finale scoring sofware for seperate projects and the sound always works on that.
