How to record a live concert advice.

Hi everyone.

I am wanting to start recording live concert shows but really need some of your expert advice. I have never had any experience of this in the past but I have been advised of a dat recrder or minidisc recorder. Does anybody have any advice? My aim is for the concerts to be as clear as possible and don't mind how much it costs to purchase the equipment.

I am not too technically minded so it would be ideal if I could purchase a recording unit that could then be transferred to CDR. Does any body have any recommendations? Like I said earlier I have been advised of the minidisc recorders and to buy an additional external mic. I would want the recorder to be small to fit in a pocket with the mic being able to be clipped to a jacket or something. Many Thanks

Hmmm

So it sounds as if you wish to make bootleg copies of Live shows ......
With most performers and venues, you find that this type of activity is not allowed and may possibly be illegal.

Good luck in your endeavors.

Off hand, given your post, I would assume two things to be true.
  • You're young
  • You're not too bright
Technically, you have two challenges. The first is recording time, the second is input quality of the microphone(s). Ignore the first, any removable media will work. Minidisc should be fine. Your problem is the mics. Any mic that you can hide under your shirt collar is going to be omnidirectional, which means you'll get the music, the farts of the guy in front of you, and the screams of all the people around you. Playback should be just delightful, and pretty worthless.

Legally, well, you're screwed. Hope you get caught and bounced out on your ass. There are a lot of guys here whose creative efforts are responsible for all the bread and butter they are ever going to see. Stealing that, from whomever, is not going to win you many friends around here.

I believe your looking for the Dat Heads forum - it's awash with postings from bootleggers or as they call it 'concert tapers'
