Newbie with Logic Express frustrations

Hi,
I've just purchased Logic Express to use with my Powerbook G4.
I slowly figured out how to record audio (through a Tascam US122) and how to record software instruments like the EVP73 and some others that come with the program.

My questions are:

1. How do I record a drum pattern with the drum sounds included in the program? I can't load the sounds (aiff and wav) the way i do the software synths

2. Why does the MIDI tutorial song only play the selected sound on my Korg M1 and not the sounds its supposed to play according to the manual?

3 Why does Logic Express crash when I try to load sounds from the Xtreme Analog folder?

Thanks in advance from an already frustrated user of Logic (should've gone for Windows PC with simple software).

1. The drums in Logic are normally used in the EXS24 sampler as well as the Xtreme Analog.
2.Is it playing back on your soundcards synth, Logics samplers or your keyboard ?
3.How much RAM you using ? CPU speed ? What are you loading the Xtreme sounds into ?

Hey Stealthtech,

1. THe drum samples are there but I can't select them. Basically I would like to be able to assign them to my Korg M1 keyboard but have no clue how to do that. The manual isn't very helpful either.

2. I think the midi-stream from Logic to the M1 isn't right. If i select a patch on my M1 when I pplay the tutorial song then that patch is all i hear, not the different sounds that make up the song.

3. RAM= 2x512 CPU is 800Mhz. I load the Xtreme Analog sound into the EXPS24, but then Logic Express immediately crashes.

I'm seriously thinking there's either a bug in the program or something went wrong during installation. I already tried a reinstall but no result.

I'm thinking about ditching Logic and get something simpler that actually works! Any recommendations?

1. You will not be able to assign the sounds to your keyboard but can be triggered by your keyboard. The stereo drums (factory) should be located in the drop down instrument list within the EXS24. Load the drum kit and trigger via midi.

2. Thats gonna be your midi routing and wether or not you have all 16 chls. outputting data and the keyboard set to accept all 16 chls.

3. The EXS24 as well as most softsynths are resource hogs and a 800MHz box is a bit on the slow side for these plugs. You have plenty of Ram but CPU is on the border of un/acceptable to Logic.

4. You also need to tweek your Operating system to Logic or any highend program for that matter.
Many other things can be set up wrong unknowingly.
HD read and write speed, cache settings, latency settings, driver settings, PCI slot conflicts, AGP conflicts, etc...
