I'm Really close on picking out my bulk cable, Your opinions

Okay, for a long time now I've been thinking about making my own cables and this is what I'm thinking of using.

For Balanced Cables:

Mogami - W2534 (Neglex Quad Balanced Mic Cable)
Neutrik - NC3FX-B / NC3MX-B (XLR's)

Now, I've been going back and forth between the Mogami W2534 and W2549 which is not quad. From what I've read the quad is a better cable and keeps more interferance out of the signal, but is more difficult to solder. I just want to get the best cable I can, and at 8 cents more a foot I'm thinking any possible improvement that quad makes should be worth it.

Can you share your thoughts on this quad vs. regular bananced issue? Is the above the best cable I can make?

Couldn't find any info on these. Anyone know which is better, or what the difference is?

Anyone know why Neutrik doesn't make a black/gold TRS connector? or maybe redco just doesn't have them.

Anyways, like so many other things, I really need to make up my mind about some of this gear so any comments are welcome. I could use some bulk cable sites to do price comparisons too. I've just been look at redco so far.

I usually buy my bulk cables and connectors from Full Compass. I haven't needed to in a while though, so I don't know if their prices are still competitive.

I use Canare and Connectronics cable mostly, although I do have a number of Mogami snakes. for the quad cable I use the Canare star quad cable.

As far as the quad cable thing, it is an exra hassle and a lot more time to wire those up. Probably not necessary on every balanced cable using XLR's. I made some quad's for long cable runs, but only for the most critical applications. Using regular (but high quality) mic cable for the bulk of your cabling needs should be just fine.

I've found Redco.com to be an awesome dealer. They will match prices too. If you are only doing short runs then I would go with the non-quad cable. You can even save money (if that's an issue) and go with the 2552. It's a lot smaller and it works great. If you are doing a lot of behind the rack stuff I would go with that, the other would be too bulky. GL

Could you guys tell me some websites you shop around at for mogami cable and neutrik connectors?

I've been searching google and can't seem to find many, like 2 so far.

I remember hearing about one site called something like "martek" but that must not be the right spelling. I think I know what I want, Now I'm just shopping for the best price. I will post my results for you guys.

I must be doing something wrong because it doesn't take me any longer to make a star quad cable than it does to make a regular 2-conductor cable. It's the exact same amount of soldering.

I use star quad because I'm often running pretty long cables (50'+) and it's pretty cheap insurance against noise, as these things go.

This is what I've found so far:

Performance Audio has the best deal on Neutric NC3FX-B ($2.64), NC3MX-B ($2.39), NP2C-B ($2.79).

Mogami cable is cheapest at Redco so far.

Anywhere else I can look? Marketek.com was not cheaper, nor full compass.

hmm wholesale i'm lookin at 2.06 for the connector (NP2C-B) i'm sure you can do better then that well of course thats if you buy 100. But it's still only 2.17 if you buy 10 or more. Look around some more i'm sure you can find better deals!

When I was shopping for bulk cable I was told repeatedly that unless you are in an area of high RF interference, don't waste the extra money on quad. So if this is for your bedroom/basement studio don't bother. If you plan to gig live or work in a variety of environments, it's a good investment.

I've bought plenty of Mogami 2549 and Neutrik at Performance Audio. They were great to work with and have a store about a 1/2 hour away.

Call redco, they seem to know a lot about their products. Ask them if you need quad, explain your situation.
