ASR10 n alesis QS6

Hey, is there any way I can hook these two machines up and have the ASR 10 "control" the qs6 ?

I love the music i make with the qs6 but i need a sequencer to build my compositions. If not, is there any other type of sequencer that I can buy to work with my alesis qs6?

I don't remember there being a way to set any of the ASR-10 sequencer tracks to 'external' or 'midi out' or 'output' or any setting that would allow it to control your other board.

Since the QS6 is a midi keyboard any midi sequencer will be compatable, and here's a link to a good one:

This is marketed as a dance unit, but obviously that's not all it can do --- in other words, you don't HAVE to sequence dance music on this machine, it's a blank slate like any other midi recorder...

well can't u just record the seq. as midi files. I have been doing this with a lot of seq. from my ASR-10. I put the asr in midi sync, Protools as the master then hit record...........Bam - kick it up a notch. Then send the midi outputs to Sampletank or my Motif ES for newer sounds with no problems.

I have never tried to record the midi directly into my Motif, But i don't see how it wouldn't work. The ASR can have separate midi outs for each track...........likewise, the other keyboard should have separate mini ins for each track. So maybe........set the ASR as master and your QS as slave and record the Seq.

ahhhmmm . . . will i have to use "midi" with this?
im no good at midi -- i would rather be able to just hook one board up to a sequencer and have the sequencer monitor what i play -- live musically (i have no significant knowledge of how to operate the midi shit -- n i ve been reading the manual to no avail)

Yes, it requires you to use "midi".

But only one chord from the "midi out" of the sequencer to the "midi in" of the keyboard, then another from the "midi in" of the sequencer to the "midi out" of the keyboard.

This will be a fine way for you to gain some knowledge and loose your fear of "midi". Just be sure to go into the utility page on the Alesis and turn the local control to it's 'off' setting --- otherwise you will get midi feedback.
