which keyboard??

Hi, I have just started playing keyboard a fair bit and my friend and I are playing together a lot as well. I have been borrowing my friends cheap old school keyboard which has really bad sounds and i want to buy my own. We are getting a few live gigs and i also want to use it for some recording. I would want to get something with a good piano sound as a lot of our songs use piano. The only catch is i dont have a lot of money...about $1000 from battle of the bands winnings..haha. well if anyone has any sugestions of what to get it would be greatly appreciated. i have done some looking around but cant really determine what to get just from what i have read off wesites. thanks.

go heavy and gritty

wow, i can't imagine having $1000 to spend on a keyboard. that sounds really fun.

i've gone through 5 or 6 in the past few years. not like i've successively destroyed each one and had to replace it or anything, just switched them to meet different needs.

i don't have a specific keyboard to recommend, just a thought: i've been much happier with the older models i've picked up used. they're a bitch to haul around because they're so much heavier, but i think they're worth it. they have much fuller tones - new stuff can sound really wimpy. then again, like i said, i haven't shopped in your price range - more like $300. i'm sure on new equipment that makes a world of difference. plus i think i get some pretty sweet deals at the used shop i go to.

good luck, and tell everyone what you pick and how you like it!
