Okay,. .I'm having a slight dilemma trying to mic a kick drum .. . I'm using an ATM Pro25, on a short 8" mic stand with a boom.
Now, the kick drum is an 18" bass drum (which is slightly smaller than average) However, there is a 4" port hole cut out in the front head at the 4 O'clock position (maybe slighly lower 4:30) for microphone placement. . . I want to place the mic roughly 2" from the inside batter head. . . The problem is that it seem as if the the (8" mic stand) is too tall. . The mic boom keeps hitting the side of the port hole, preventing me from placing the boom all the way inside the bass drum. . . ??? So, what am I missing, . .Do, I just need a shorter mic stand, . like a 4" mic stand? Any help would definitely, be appreciated |

Have the drummer rotate the front head to where the hole is now at 2 o'clock.

We picked up this clip on stand, for $12 CDN that clips on to any boom stand. It's basically just the top arm of any stand that has a clip on the rear end of it. We just slide it almost to the bottom of a stand, and stick it right into the kick drum.
Look for one at your local music store. |
