JFK Assassination Tape
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmp...ination_tape_1
1963, has to be acetate, not poly, so no baking here. It's amazing that they never even made a good copy of it in 40 years -- The conspiracy continues. It'll be interesting to see how they salvage it or "accidentally" destroy it. Acetate was before my time, though I have an old RCA acetate tape around here somewhere that I bought by accident years ago. It looks strange and smells like vinegar. Anyone here ever tried recovering one? ![]()

If it smells like vinegar then it has started breaking down. It's actually called vinegar syndrome. It's important not to put this tape on any machine you use seriously, or even store it near other acetate tapes. A vinegar syndrome tape can actually "infect" other tapes.
I know this because I used to do audio preservation work for the National Archives.
