CuBase cross platform Question...

Hey all. Studio Owner here finding himself having to add yet another piece of software to the corral.

I currently use DP4 all day long. I have a client coming in this week who has his data in a PC Cubase format.

In a nutshell...

I need to purcahse a copy of Cubase for the mac so I can open his data fle, and convert it to work in DP 4 (save as OMF V1)

1 - Does Cubase SE offer that function.
2 - Does Cubase SE open all the various Cubase file formats? with just the limitations of track count, etc..

If there is more I should know regarding cross-platform compatubility (PC -> mac format) with regards to Cubase please educate me.

Thanks

Maybe 'cause thay haven't used DP and don't know?

I know you're pressed for an answer, but be patient. It's not always an instant reply around here.

Why don't you ask the client to output it to an omf for you so you don't have to spend $ just to open the files.

Does dp use the timecode embedded in broadcast waves? if so, you can just go into the audio subfolder for each song and import the wav files and send them to origin. No need to spend money.

A little sarcasm (Dont take it personally.)

Hmm OMF, never thought of that. Too bad the client already left the former studio to come my way. I wanted a solution or an answer before I subjected him to spending another hour or 2 of his hard earned money just to convert a file to OMF.

2nd I am more concerned with and maybe I wasnt clear. Sometimes I get that way. Does Cubase SE for the Mac Accept Cubase PC Files. That is my main concern. I convert PT files day in and day out to run in DP as well as Nuendo Files. And I do it by having both programs available for these conversions. My Simple assumption is that it will, but I wanted to be sure. as SE is not SL and If I would be better off sinking the $300.00 to get SL then that is what I am willing to do, just wondered if anyone knew or had an answer to that PRIMARY concern of mine. So I could save a couple hundre bucks.

Ok back to your regularly scheduled programming Enuff of my ranting. LOL

Oh yeah and..... You indicated that Cubase exports OMF, but you didnt answer my specific Question. Does CUBASE SE OUTPUT TO OMF!!!. Thanks a million. The empasis on SE. As we know with PT LE it does not output OMF files. If SE does not then SL is my choice. Does anyone have any experience with SE.... (Sorry for the steam)

Like I said don't take it personally.

And on the time issue I figured 4 days was ample time. But then this is the Holiday season so i apologize for being hyper. guess i'll just sink my cash , learn that software as well and post tons of helpful hints to other Cubase users. Ahh the agony of my life. LOL

Have a great weekend Guys. I am off to do another fun show.

And they wonder how I blow off steam. i mix the hell out of a show.

Yah know I was thinking about doing that. There is a Company in Nashville that will do a complete teardown and upgrade for me for $3800. I am tempted to ship mine down that way and get it upgraded. After hearing that. I think i will. Ok where is the next big money client who is paying for my mod. LOL.

I took the channel strips out myself and sent them down there a few at a time, so I could stay running. If you do that, you can get a turn around time of a week. You have to call ahead to make sure that they aren't swamped, but I think they did 8 channels in a day and sent them right back.

one other thing that might be good for you to know is...you cant open SL/SX files in SE..unless they are SL/SX 1.0 files as SL/SX 2.0 files wont open in SE ...allthough SE files will open in SL/SX...

Thanks Flight, that was actually one of the many answers I was trying to figure out. I have added that to my little Database of info.
