cubase beginner

Hi!
whenever i try to record audio by pressing the rec button in transport window,the cursor moves but it does not record anything.Same happens when i export vst's in a audiotrack(i can export them vry well in a folder or sobut in the track view it remains empty).plus how can one assign different vst effects to different midi tracks? ihave cubase 5.1.

This may be a dumb question, but did you arm the track your recording?

Maybe...

Go into the speaker icon in the taskbar in the lower right part of your screen. make sure line in or mic (whicher you use) isn't muted. Also, go into advanced properties. On some sound cards you need to select which (line in or mic) you are going to be using. So select the appropriate one. Hope this helps.
