Rack mounted 4 track cassettes?

I am having a hard time finding model numbers for the various Tascam (and any other brand) 4 track cassette recorders that were for racks.

I just got a Yamaha MG12/4 mixer today and want to start doing my doodling on cassettes since they are so damn cheap. Digital just takes too long.

I still got my 4 track reel (which is why I bought the mixer) but that is a bit exspensive to use for messing around.

Any models?

I am still thinking of just a 2 track that was for mixdown, but I don't know that I can record one track at a time on those. But most of the Tascam 2 track rack units were half track machines right? Might sound a good deal nicer if they are.

TASCAM made two models;

The newer 134 with Dolby NR only and the older 234 with dbx which is rumoured to be the superior beast in terms of specs and overall construction quality.

I'm looking for a 234 myself!

Cheers!

Thanks.

Is $250 a fair price for a 234 in good condition?

Arrow Yeah, Ebay is funny, like that.

I've seen perfectly good 234's auction for as little as $65, or as much as $250, once in a great while. It really depends on the day.

I only have [5] 234's, and I could probably use another one!! Heh.

It's a way-cool 4-tracker!! Really a great unit.

I know you have tons of duplicate equipment, but other than parts, why would you need 5 of those? Just curious.

Arrow I got a couple that were mint or near mint,...

& the rest I got as non-working clunkers, with the intent to refurbish them. So far, I refurbished one, or two.

Besides, I'm fanatical about that type of Tascam equipment, & 4-tracks in general, and why not have 4 or 5 at that price? For ~$60 & needing belts & rubber parts refurbished is still a deal.

I was envisioning setting up several cloned rackmount 4-track systems, based on the 234 and other Tascam rackmount gear, for projects, rental, or whatever.

I've seen otherwise good 234's, needing no work, occasionally bid for as low as ~$65, depending on the day. I've seen them bid for >$200, too, so go figure.
