best mixer for under 1,000

alright, i have about a 1000 dollars to work with... im looking for a mixer with AT LEAST 8 channels ( maybe more ) that i will be able to record directly to my pc and edit in real time and after being recorded via the mixer.

and WHAT SOUND CARD to use on the mixer


like i said, my budget is 1,000 bucks.( For mixer and sound card ) please give me some infomation PLEASE

( edit ** - the computer is 1.5ghz, with roughly 500+ megs of ram )

IMHO its DAW s/w, but other then that there's Mackie, Allen Heath, & Soundcraft, or if you just want analog summing(no faders, pan pots etc.) go with the Folcrom(the only high end gear of the bunch) which is what I'd recommend if you have the D/A to do it. I'd say at least 8 for it to be useful but i've never used one so take that FWIW

with what kind of sound card????

do i need a mixer with advark ? or do i need preamps ? please let me know whats going on....
