studio monitors.. help with selection..
so my budget is $300 for a pair of studio monitors. I think that my last few narrowings are the M-Audio BX5, Event TR5, and Behringer Truth B2301.. I really don't know too much about monitors but I need to settle with something so if anyone has any comments, just leave a reply.. Thanks

Its a little out of your budget but I am using the active fostex PM1s ($350 for a pair). They are the only real monitors I have experiance with so I can't really compare, but they are a descent size which gives a nice low end, and have done me well. Might be worth adding to your list?!?

I chose the KRK RP-8's out of the monitors I listened to when I went to GC. These were $500, but there is a smaller pair. Those are $300. They sounded HUGE when I heard them. They were both hooked up and those are what played first.. damn. You should definitely consider going to GC or somewhere similar and testing some of your favorite songs out.
These don't give me too much ear fatigue either.. I listen to them all the time. They are set up as my computer speakers. |

I will be doing hiphop music and rnb singing for hooks or whatever the project needs. But as far monitors go, I'm really looking into the Fostex PM-1s and the M-Audio BX5, as well as the Behringer Truth B2031s because it was so highly demanded on musiciansfriend.com ... I have another one week before I go to guitar center or ebay so any more comments or suggestions?
THANKS EVERYONE THOUGH....

PM-1's are nice
I have been using the Fostex monitors for a few weeks now and am really impressed with their performance, especially for the cost. BTW, I've been following this board for about a month now, and everyone here is very helpful with the sheer amount of experience they are willing to share.

I'm buying a pair of USED BX5s, and I was wondering.. how long does it usually take before a pair of monitors become fatigued?

Think it's your ears that would get fatigued, no? I've never heard of monitors getting fatigued.

I'm running events tr5's, and I have to tell ya they really do a great job for me. You can check out some mixes 3 that I have done using the event tr5s.
http://f2.pg.briefcase.yahoo.com/sportzzz2003 as far as the monitors goes, you have to really take a piece of music you are familiar with and listen to it on each set your interested in. When I say listen I dont mean pop it in and hear what you want to hear or what the average person would listen too. I mean critical listen for all frequency ranges. Highs mids low,,,,,hi mids, mid bass that sorta critical listening. Also the size of the monitors also depends on the size of the room your mixing in, not the size of your budget. Just keep that in mind and you should be good to go. |

the BX5 seems fine.
you are doing hip hop, and by compensating for the BX5's kinda shy low end your mixes will have a little more bass.

okay so I just got my BX5s come in...
For a pair of used speakers, the cosmetic condition is flawless.. I'm just waiting to plug these in and give it a shot. But before I do that,
what's the best wires I can get
... I'm not too good with the technical stuff. Thanks guys, I hope I didn't make th wrong decision...

some standard cables from any music store in your area should do the trick....the best i've heard of are monster cables but they're so expensive it may be out of reach for you right now....as for hiphop stuff..might i suggest the samson 120 subwoofer.
