What do your drums sound like dry?

Hey guys,

While I'm trying to figure out my acoustics and micing problems, I've come upon the thought that I should really be trying to come up with a good sound before any processing, but I don't have anything to go by on that.

So, I'm asking for mp3s of your drums and drums only. No effects, no panning, all levels set at zero. I think this could help a lot of people who are try to get good drum sounds but are trying to mix at the same time as getting the sound right.

What works for you? And if you like your drum sound, you could also post links to it after it's been mixed to hear what it will sound like later.

Are you only using room mics?
It sounds really muffled as if there was no close mic'ing done at all.
And also do you have the snare muted? I don't hear any "snare" to it.

My drums don't sound very good either...
I don't have any dry recordings at the moment but I can make one.

Yeah, I have close mics on everything except cymbals. I also have a couple of OH's. But I have HUGE phase problems due to it being a small room that isn't treated well. I'm working on getting that fixed. So all of the definition is gone. Everything is canceling everything else out and all that remains is this muddy mess. Of course this is dry, no eq, no panning. I can get it to sound better with that stuff, but not good enough to use.

I'm not a drummer but I'll record something and let you know how it goes...
I'm setting up 4 mics... Snare, Kick, Toms, 1 Room.
Not a good setup but I don't feel like doing a lot of setting up...

You seem to have the exact opposite problem that I have. You have very little low end. How many mics are you using and where are they?

Also, I think your snare drum could use some tuning. Make sure the bottom head is very tight and the snare wires are not rattling and very tight too. Then tune the top head.

I assume you were referring me so...
Like I said this was a VERY quick set up.

I kinda just threw the mics around the set...

Snare - About a foot and a half away - straight out the side.
Toms - About a foot away - even with top head of floor tom.
Kick - Outside the Hole about 6 inches.
Room - Mainly just for the cymbals - 3 feet above set, 2 feet in front.

These are low-end mics, Audiotechnica drum mic set about $100.
The room mic is a crappy old school Radio Shack - Audiotechnica condenser.

The snare is just how I like it... But since it's not mic'ed well and I'm not a drummer (I don't hit it very hard) I think that's why there's a lot of snare to it.

I sent all the mics to a Behringer mixing board, flat EQ, low mic sensitivity,
Sent straight to my Delta 44 as a "stereo" track.
No panning was done however so it's really mono.

I can get some really decent sounds if I spend the time setting up.

On a side note all the drum heads are OLD and the set itself is shit...
