How do i get from the second sound to the first sound?

Is it equilizing?
Mics?
Compressing?

I used 5 drum mics on tama rockset drum:
Shure sm 57 on the snare
Shure kickdrum-mic on the kickdrum
Shure sm58 overhead
Shure sm 57 for 2 toms
Shure sm58 for floor tom.

Can you give me any tips at all? (i dont have lots of money)

Well almost everything is different. The performance is different, it sounds like a completely set of mics, diffrent drum set. The EQ is different and the first one seems to use more distant mics verses the close mics. much less kick in the first one........

I don't mean to be discouraging, but it's not that simple. It's not a matter of EQ and compression, it's the flawless room that it was recorded in, the studio's super expensive equipment, and the band's equipment. One thing I can tell you though is that you'll have much better luck with two condenser mics overhead than a single SM-58.

But how do i get from a very dry sound (like the second) to a very 'fat' sound.

The Drum would normally be one of the best on the market.
Tama rockset, zildjian cymbals,iron cobra kickdrum,...

But in the first fragment, how would you describe that , because the overheads wont make any difference on the toms-snare i think.

Lets just focus on the snare only:
I'm about 90 procent sure he will use a sm57 on the snare, now what is my biggest mistake ? Did i use too much compression , not enough? , wrong compression? Wrong cables? Too much tape on the snare? Not enough tape on the snare? Different eq'zing?

Hey dude, I'm currently mixing on the drums of a song that'll appear on my band's new demo.. I found when trying to get a fat punkrock drumsound like your Green Day example, that EQ'ing on drums is by far the most important effect you have to apply. Listen to the songs with your favorite drumsounds and cut the "wrong" frequencies.

What I would do if I were you:
- Cut in your kickdrum around 250hz to 1khz with like 10db!
- Add more high-end and reverb to your snare.
- Get condensor overheads.
- Read more about mic positions & angles.

The biggest difference will be on the way in. The snare itself, the heads you use, how it's tuned, the tension of the snare wires, the mics you use and the room it's all in are what dictate the sound, not the compression and EQ you use, although they can be used to compensate.

Sweep the high mids with a few db of boost until you find a nice "crack" and then take the boost off and cut around that. Add a little reverb. Your clip sounds totally dry—a little reverb can go a long way on a snare, and it's quite noticeable in the Greenday clip.

Not the case at all! The overheads are a huge part of the drum sound. On some records I mix the OHs are almost 100% of the snare sound but usually its an almost equal amount OHs, Close mic and room mics.

Yeah Hojo is right about the importance of mics, tuning, heads.. But I still stress that on drums EQ is by far the most important effect!

I also have this problem: i have recorded everything on 1 single track
(actually 2 tracks 'stereo') onto the pc.
So now i cant add reverb to the snare alone without adding reverd to the entire mix.

Anyone got an idea what the cheapest way is to record in multitracks ?

Buy a M-Audio Delta 44 or Maya soundcard, and use a little mixer as pre-amp.
