Masterlink simple question

Hi folks

I am new to this list.

Is it true that the Masterlink can Master your project without you having to go to a Mastering Plant or do you do your own complete mastering?

If you do it yourself, what duplicating services are available that anyone know of in the Georgia Atlanta area?

The Masterlink has some on-board DSP tools that allow you to tweak mixes. Whether that's considered "mastering" or not depends more on your own skills and the environment you're listening in.

Personally, I don't beleive in people's ability to self-master, no matter how good their ears are. The objectivity of having someone else (who is not intimately involved in the project) analyze a mix is extremely important.

You know, the thing I hate about the Masterlink is that it can't give you a PQ log... Many of the replicators I deal with still require them.

And with my (VERY) limited use of the on-baord DSP on the ML, there are beter options available.

That all being said, it will "technically" write a RedBook compliant production master. It WON'T error-check it, and it won't write the log.

THAT all being said, I just replaced my old beat-up one at GC last week - They're blowing them out. I'm figuring that Alesis has a little something up their sleeve (like FW or USB connectivity), but that's just a hunch.

Ok I am not sure if I am understanding your response. I understand the assistance part yes but can it actually do the mastering without me having to go elsewhere?

Machines don't "master"..... people "Master" -- so on its own, a Masterlink can't "master" anything. It has some rudimentary tools that someone can use to tweak a recording, but that's not mastering a recording (which is a very specific and detailed process). That's what I was getting at....

BUT - if all you want to do is slap some EQ and limiting on a mix, you can certainly do that on the Masterlink. You can't really call that Mastering, though.........

I know that

I am beginning to believe from your "hints" that the Masterlink is not sufficient to do the job.

Just was hoping for a straight yes no response. Is that too hard?
