guitar will go to line in...inserts are for sending that channel to a dynamic based processor (compressor, etc.)

You'll need a DI (direct injection) box for the guitar or if you have an amp that offers a line level output. You won't get very decent results just trying to plug the guitar straight into the mixer.
Check out SansAmp DI boxes.
Best bet .... if you got an amp and can get a good sound from it .... mic it.

That's what i did with my smaller mixer. And i was looking at a map of where to hook everything up. And it said plug it into the mixer. But i got a marshall 100w. So i can just mic it still?

Yup .... you will get the most acurate representation of what you hear from the Marshall by micing it. Provided you use a quality mic (sm57 works great) and a decent preamp. The built in pre's on the Berry mixer may do OK, but a quality tube pre going to one of the line in's would be the shiznits.
