motu 828mkii

Okay.. I just bought a Motu 828mkII and I normally have used Sound Forge up to this point... I can't afford Cubase right now. The problem I'm having is just in basic recording. It shows up only left and no right in the workspace... and the sound I get is at a very very low level. I went through all the installation and such, set up for wave in to be from the Motu under the Sound Forge preferences, plugged in my guitar and tried to record.. I will admit that I haven't read the manual ALL the way through.. I've scanned what has to do with what I'm wanting to do and couldn't figure anything out. Here's my setup: acoustic guitar, chord, motu, firewire chord, computer, all the computer stuff in between, and then Sound Forge.... I definately may have missed that I need something else hooked up... so any help would be appreciated, don't tell me to go read the manual, because that would defeat the purpose of this forum... help please.. thanks.

In Sound Forge .... go to preferences/wave at the Record: scroll box select MOTU Mic-Guitar. Click Apply and OK.
Plug the Guitar into one of the front inputs on the MOTU and adjust the volume knob on the guitar and the trim knob on the MOTU so that you get a good level showing on the LED display of the MOTU for the input you are using.
Click the record button in Sound Forge ... at the top of the window where it says Recording attributes .... click New...
Select the Sample rate and Bit depth you want to use. Now select Mono for the Channels: ..... Click OK.
Double check that you are getting a good level into Sound Forge.
Click ARM and then click the record button.

Thats how it works with Sound Forge 7 and the 828mkII.
Sound Forge isn't a multitrack program though .... it's an editor.
Seeing as how Cubase is out of your price range at the moment, you may want to have a look at n-Track version 3.3 (at least until ver. 4 is out of Beta).

Sorry .... just can't help it ..... read the manuals Dude!!!

I read through the manual today and still was having problems... the main problem was that there is nothing in the manual about SF because they expect you to have Cubase... I'm about to try what you suggested though.. we'll see what happens.

Yeah ... I feel your pain with the MOTU manual .... it took me a bit to figure out how to set it all up in the different programs that I have.
