MX5050 Bias problem
I have an MX 5050 8track. After cleaning and demagging and setting level (MRL +3) I began to bias using the built in osc. with a 10k tone and a Tube Mp VU as the machine's VU's were pinning (i realize now I could have taken the inputs off SRL and lowered them but it didn't occur to me at the time, and I don't think it's a factor). Long and short is that I could not get a couple of channels to overbias to -3 before the bias pot stopped. Anybody else had this problem? Think its the way I metered?

Well, I guess my suggestion backfired. Someone DID respond on that other thread. Oh, well.

I've had the same problem myself. I just got it as close as I could and moved on. I'm not sure of a workaround, but the recordings I've done thus far sound cool despite the bias not being spot on.

Thanks Skullfisher. I redid it using a different Meter and got it a lot closer. It sounds really good and not too noisy as far as I can tell. All but one channel biased to -3with the other meter, and the channel in question was -2 at least. I am not big on forums. This is the first one I have ever been on, but this is really cool. You can all look forward to more blithering idiocy from me in future.
