Red face Mixing Desk Patchbay How 2?

I'd like some pointers on how to use the patchbay on my desk (a recently aquired Soundcraft 6000). The 'manual' assumes you were part of the design team that created the thing.

I'd like to be able to patch in gates on various channels, global compression on the stereo mix and......well that'll do me for now.

The Mackie was a piece of cake - this thing is making me have to think again!

Red face And what's a 'tie line' when it's at home?

I'm hoping they're useful things to have, since I apparently have 64 of them.

Thanks alien, that would be really useful and very kind. This desk is a joy to use (track routing, EQ, quiet, mic pres - not to mention the SOUND), but I'm severely limited without the patching. Another thing that vexes me is the absence of Aux Returns, requiring me to use up channel strips to manage reverb, etc., back in. Getting there slowly though....
