Good NEWS!

1) Emeric is able to duplicate the CD's for us. It will cost us each 5 to 10 bucks apiece. If you can't afford five to ten bucks, then you need some serious help We will make 50 CD sets to start off with, and they will be labeled "special edition" or something just so it feels cooler That's 100 discs total with jewel cases and the cost for Emeric to ship the CD's back to the states...to the guy who'll be labeling. I'm not sure how much labeling will cost yet, but expect to spend another 5-10 bucks and that should be it for now I hope. That works out to $10-20 for your copy of the CD's, plus we'll have 30 CD sets left over to sell. The proceeds will come back to us or be donated to the BBS.

2) I've been working on getting the cd labels and back cover finished.

First, let's review S8-N's brilliant cover, just in case you haven't seen it. This is the *front* cover of the insert.
http://homerecording.com/ubb/Forum28/HTML/000031.html

Next we have a potential CD label. This will go *on* the CD itself unless enough people don't like it. Does ANYONE have access to a CD printer? If so let me know ASAP. Note that this particular image is for the first CD in the set. Yes, it is a tape reel that's been through WWIII.

And finally we have an example back cover. This will be on the *back* of the jewel case and also includes the text that you'll see on the *sides* of the case. I wanted to somehow pay homage to the BBS on the cover of the CD...and I think this works pretty well. Note that this is a SHRUNKEN down version...the original is at 300 dpi such that it will print nicely. What I've done is to take the layout of the BBS and modify it a tad such that it'll list the songs instead of messages.

The little blue dot in the corners is hard to see on this shrunken version. It seems that most record companies stick a little logo down there or something so I stuck this...

Lemme know what you all think.

Everything looks completely awesome Slack!!

Although I'm not contributing anything to the CD this time around I have expressed a few times before I want to buy a copy - needless to say, now I've seen the artwork I gonna piss my self soon if I don't get the CD soon.

If you are getting initially a limited number of CD's cut, then how about individually numbering each one. I don't know how feasible this is - but it would be cool when this thing is racing up the charts to say I had number 7 or number 13 or whatever

Mondo Cool layout for the song list.
You've upped the excitement level one more notch. Thanks, Slack.

Question

Just had a thought about the song list... the smilies or general layout or whatever of the BBS you've used as the backdrop for the song list isn't under copyright or somehow protected by someone other than Dragon is it? I don't really know if this kind of thing can be copyrighted or protected... maybe Dragon could clear this up... I hope you can use it cos it looks awesome.

Thanks guys.

Coop, I'm not sure that UBB would copyright its BBS layout...I don't think I'm going to worry about it since it's free advertisement for them in a way... anyone else have an opinion on this?

I was also thinking of replacing the smiley faces and crap with something else...but nothing is coming to me...anyone?

It makes me want to "double-click" on one of those song titles just to hear it now.

Great Job!!

That is some seriously sweeeet artwork Slack. It's so cool in fact, that I'm gonna stop being lazy and get my HTML write up stuff to you today, because now I can't wait to see this thing finished. I love those CD labels, they are perfect for this project.

If we are thinking of using different logos next to each song title instead of the smileys, can we submit our own as long as it fits in the space?

I was thinking that perhaps it would be cool to let people do their own little "smiley face" type things. Might be cool.

You'd have to conform to some size & resolution guidelines. I'll let you know. Also, these will have to be transparent .gif's so limit yourself to 256 colors.

I was kind of hoping that getting some of this stuff done would spark interest in the project again. If you want to submit more material to me then feel free. Remember, the thing that will *really* make this CD valuable to those who aren't on it is the write-ups...how it was recorded, how long it took, where, etc etc. I'm sure it'll be very interesting!

I salute your tenaciousness! We're gonna have to think of some way to repay all this, whip cracken to keep us on track, work you've done. Maybe Dragon could make you supreme moderator or something. You would probably like a new soundcard instead but titles are cheaper. Love the design.

I'm getting in kinda late on this but how does burning a CD cost 5-10 dollars??? CD's are a dollar each and they take, like 20 minutes to burn???

Because S8-N, there are two CD's and we are paying to have 50 copies (total) of the compilation burned. The 5-10 bucks apiece will cover a total of 100 CD's and 100 jewel cases plus shipping back to the states.

Since we are all putting money into the thing, we will also be reimbursed as they sell....and we should sell most of this first run.

This doesn't, however, cover labeling. We are working out some cheap ways to label these suckers but figure on maybe another 5 to 10 bucks there. So 20 bucks for 2 Enhanced CD's. Not too bad...especially when you stand to recover some of it.

I love it when people (Including me) start to carve up a steak that hasn't been born yet.
xx.xx% to the bbs..
xx.xx% to the administrators/producers.
xx.xx% to the next cd with first right of refusal of inclusion, in case I dumped my cheap song on the first cd and am ready for a knockout punch....
and the remaining 98% for us, the oil painting, dope smoking, computer programming musicians that we are.
Fair?
