audio technica, rode nt 1a, rode nt 1000

Hi,

Can someone tell me the different between the rode nt1, rode nt 1a, rode nt 1000? Is there any price different too? Yesterday I read for first about the audio technica microphones. I never had heard of them before. Are these good microphones? You also have different 40 series in these (at450, at433). The higher the "at" number, the better they are and the more they cost?
Thanks a lot,

Steven Verraes (Belgium)

The NT1 & NT1a are variations on the NT1, and sell for $200US. The NT1000 (which I have) is $300US. I also have an AT4033 $400US. To compare the Rode and the AT: the Rode is hotter, more top end, less aggressive low end, more accurate sounding; the AT is cooler, warmer, and more colored. Some vocals sound MUCH better with the 4033, others sound more realistic with the Rode. I'm glad I've got both to play with.

Hmm: just noticed I said the 4033 was "cooler, warmer": what I meant was that the output level is lower but there is more bass presence.
