I've had a couple people in the last few days freaking out because they don't want to be left out. My UPDATE threads are pretty long winded so this one will be short and to the point:

If you want to sign up for this project, either reply to this message or email HR_Comp_CD@hotmail.com before 1/17/2000.

This deadline can be extended if you think it's necessary. Like I said, I just made it up to get the ball rolling.

Question

Do you think the selections should be limited to those pieces that have been posted in the .mp3 mixing forum? And what has been decided about how what selection from each contributor, if any is used?
I've posted plenty of stuff, but I think I'd like external selection of what tune to use if I can't use some other stuff I've done.

doc, that's a good idea about voting on which songs to include.

Once we get everyone signed up, I suppose that people can let others vote on which tune they should post. I might do this even though I only have a measly 2 songs finished. This can't be a mandatory rule though because the musician has the final say on what we include and what we don't.

I don't think that we should limit this to people who have posted to the clinic. Some people have been contributing to the board, but haven't gotten anything up in the clinic yet. I don't want this to turn into some sort of elite group. So far, though, I'm EXTREMELY impressed by the fact that only people with Senior member status have signed up. I thought a bunch of people would pop up from nowhere to get a song on a CD.

Question

So the concensus is centering around accepting all submissions, but allowing a vote on which of multiple submissions (or both/all if that's the way it goes) to include. A workable design.
For those who haven't uploaded to the forum there must exist some mechanism for the participants to sample the entries. What about the time constraint per submission? That really helps firm up the CD design.

Here's what I'm thinking...

Everyone gets a minimum of one song on the CD. Once we get an initial song list, we can decide as a group what to do with remaining time (if any). Fair?

I'm not concerned about a time constraint. We're either going to have one or two CD's. Would anyone be opposed to 2 CD's if it became necessary? As long as everyone gets to submit the song of thier choice, the song that makes them the proudest, everyone should be somewhat happy.

Cool

No big deal to me in either case; it's just more work and more MB of transfer involved in 2 CDs over 1. But from the # of entries so far committed it looks like a little discipline could limit this to one <better> CD. But again- I don't care either way.

I just want everyone who wants to submit a song, can. I also think they should submit whatever they're most proud of; regardless of time. The song I'm thinking about is over 5 mintues. I realize this is long, but it's a song I have two completely different recordings of, with completely different production styles and mixes. Although the equipment during tracking was different; though a lot was the same (which still does make a huge difference), the equipment used while mixing was the same. Either way though, they're both home recordings by the same engineer (myself), in the same home . I think it would be such an eye opener that I'd be willing to just do samples of the two versions as a length of a single submition if it was space which was the only problem. This is for everyone's benefit.
