DM24 and FW IFFWDM

I have a DM24 ver. 2.1 . I have been recording to two DTRS recorders.
They are showing signs of age and I would like to use my mixer and record to my computer hard drive. I like the idea of installing the Firewire IFFWDM in my mixer and record 14 tracks of 24/96. Will I need a specific type of soundcard for the firewire or will the USB type such as M-Audio Audiophile 24/96 be o.k.? What would be an easy to learn recording software you would recommend?

The Firewire card is the soundcard that you would need. The board converts your audio to digital information and will send it to you DAW via the card. I've heard good things about the card but have never used one.

At both studios I'm involved with we run the DM24 using adat through the RME hammerfall card. We've found it to be super reliable.
