eliminating echo when using input monitoring

Hi everyone...I am new to the forum and sonar xl for the most part. This is great! Thanks for sharing knowledge. I am getting an echo when using input monitoring. My sound card is an audigy soundblaster (I know...bad idea...working on replacing that). My input signal is running into the aux 2 input and am monitoring via the phones output. I have read that I can use the soundcard mixer to fix this...but haven't had any success so far. Any suggestions would be welcomed!

Use ASIO drivers if possible.

Reduce the number or size of buffers as much as you can

You need to get your latency down below 5ms. Don't know if that is possible with the Audigy.
