MX-2424 to DAW ethernet connection failure

I don't see lights on my W2K DAW ethernet port when I connect the MX-2424 and the DAW together, and my DAW behaves as if there is no physical connection.

I know that it's not a cable issue. When I plug my internet cable modem CAT-5 (This is a known working ethernet connection), I see lights on the DAW ethernet port. However, when I take that very same CAT-5 cable, and connect it to the MX-2424, there is no light on the DAW ethernet port.

I had to use a crossover Cat-5.
