Do I need a kick a$$ EQ?

How important is a really good eq in the chain?
I am looking at the GML 8200. $5000.00 clams for that big boy.
Is it something that will dramatically improve the sound of whatever I choose to record? Are they really that much better than off the board eq?
Opinions please....

If you don't already know the answer to that, I would suggest starting with something a little more "modest" - Unless you're up to your ears in Lavry and SSL already...

Maybe try a pair of Speck EQ's - Probably under $1000 for a pair.
