I don't know where to put this exactly, but I like that this forum happens to say, "don't torture yourself," kind of goes along with the Phil Ramone interview I just read in this book, the best $25 I ever spent on 'gear.'
Behind the Glass - Top Record Producers Tell How they Craft the Hits. - Howard Massey If there was ever anyone who was into getting the performance captured no matter what, it's Phil Ramone. He walks in and hits record. I hate to think about how right he is about getting the performance. I've had such a great feel going so many times that I couldn't get after I set up the sh!t and finally got around to hitting record. I'll go one step further and say that a lot of it has to do with the fact that unstructured creative feeling is right brain and making the switch to left brain to get technical with the gear is a big switch and try switching back to right on demand. I can't do it, if I could I'd be a lot more prolific, maybe that's the "genius" in certain people, the ability to control their brains.
