i'm back. is sonar3 worth the money?
the new house is done. i've got cable internet. i've got wireless to the PC in the basement. i've got big dreams with lots of wood and drywall involved.
but i don't want to wait until i've done all that to get back to making music. is sonar3 worth the money? or should I stick with sonar2 until I'm done floating floors and angling ceilings and such. |

if you want the pantheon reverb and all the bells and whistles of producer edition sonar 3 then yeah its worth it....sonar 3 studio?.....your fine with sonar 2. i didnt see much of a difference except for the skin is now more like cool edit pro (i think thats who had that). but honestly....if you NEED more things then buy sonar 3....if sonar 2 has what you need and your happy with it...then stick with it. personally...I'm waiting for the price to come down and then I'll think about the producer edition but i dont use half the stuff on sonar 2

Welcome back!
Man - given the fact that Sonar were saying that they were too far into the dev. work for Sonar 4 to release another 3.xx patch, I'd say wait. Play with some drywall and MDF, get an irritated throat from fibreglass dust for another three months and I think you will find 4.0 released. So said, IMHO, Sonar 3.0 shits all over 2.xx. The best reason being the flexible bus routing system. It is simply superb. The Pantheon reverb sucks compared to the Sonitus version and VSampler is a bit of a dog, so I wouldn't really worry about the Producer Edition if you have an existing plugin set. Let's see what we get bribed with in the v4.0 "Super Dooper Edition"... Q.

At this point waiting for 4 might not be a bad idea, especially if you're scraping for cash. But if you've got loot to burn go for it!

Yeah, you should wait. 4 is just around the corner.
Get those bass traps and foam for your studio, everyone puts this off to last.

Cross, long time not see ya, glad you're back alive and kickin'
![]() What Middleman said, Sonar 4 is around the corner. I think you better hold your breath and stick with Sonar 2 until they release 4. They don't seem to have a chance to fix some bugs found on Sonar 3 (envelopes, etc..), instead they promised to fix it in Sonar 4. Hey, you already have the Sonitus Ultrafunk 3, right? ![]() Well, we're about on the same stage now. Final room treatment! Just believe me, MEASURE TWICE, CUT ONCE! You're gonna spend more than you thought on those 703 thingee... Post some pic on Studio building forum, brutha' ![]() ![]() Jaymz

i've got waves and sonitus v2, but the routing options of sonar 3 sound like a winner.
that said, i'm not going to be doing any mixing/mastering until the room is done. since there doesn't seem to be anything in sonar3 that will help me make music better than sonar2, I'll wait. measure twice, cut once... my old man has said that to me so many times... this time i'm going to listen!!! i'm going to buy neoprene pucks and 2x4's for the floor next week. i'm going to lay the 2x4's on their sides because i don't want to run out of ceiling. |
