Can anyone recommend a good recording magazie for me. I do home recording. My budget is very low and I cut as many corners as possible. I use cool edit pro. I've seen other magazines like Electronic Musician, but they recommend in their articles to use expenisive equipment. I need a recordng magazine that fits my type of recording. thank you

Thumbs up

Hello.

Try out "The Mix" It covers a lot of
recording tips with a help file, and also a
cd with demos and samples for you to use.
Works for me

"Mix" magazine is good, but "Recording" is the most useful one for me overall, at a level I can understand easily and benefit from (some recording magazines are aimed at pro engineers with loads of big studio gear). But rather than subscribe, or just getting the same one every month, it's a good idea to shop around, because sometimes one of the others has great articles:

Electronic Musician
HomeRecording
Performing Songwriter
EQ

I agree that Recording is one of the best mags geared towards home recordists. I've subscribed to it for around 10 years or so now and still read it cover to cover every month.
Mix has always been the 'industry' magazine ... and while the ads for SSL consoles and such are great eye candy ... the articles seem to be intended for folks with huge dollars and a huge commitment to their studio. It's been a while since I read a copy, to maybe it's changed ... but I doubt it. Someone's got to cater to the real pros.
EQ is another good magazine that crosses over pretty well. I never have subscribed to it, but have got it off the news stand from time to time.
Good luck.

I bought several issues first and now subscribe to HomeRecording magazine (not affiliated with this site). It is geared specifically to the home recordist--hence the name. www.homerecordingmag.com. Or call 1-800-937-0420. $15.95 for six isues.

Recording here 13 years (since HS&R British) never missed an issue. Now Home Recording since it started.
