414mk ii Mixdown Rumble!

Do You prefer to mixdown your 4 tracks to another cassette deck OR computer harddisk? That is, If you are planning to bring those tracks back into Tascam 414mk iii as stereo tracks and record your vocals over your instrument tracks. Which of the two produces the least generational loss and least distortion? I'm finding out that by using the hard disk, I get a slight, yet odd digital (sampling?) sound. It sounds unnatural when fed back to the recorder for the stereo backing tracks.
