MD newb needs advice

Hey. I'm new to MD's so any info you can offer would be great.

I'm looking to buy a portable MD recorder for live sound (club PA, rehersal space, etc..)

I want a MD recorder that can fullfil most, if not all, of these criteria:

- ease of use
- quality of sound
- mic input
- less than $225 USD (I'm on a budget)

I've noticed the Sharp MD SR60. I can't find many retailers out ther, but the price is right. Is this a good one to get?

What kind of mic would you suggest to get with this?

Finally, when I have audio recorded, what are some ways to upload the MD recordings to my PC for editing purposes?

I highly recommend the Sharp IM DR 420. I just got one on Ebay for $225. So far, it has been great for recording band practices.

For mics, I reccomend a pair of good Binaural mics. I use the Professional Binaural mics from Church Audio

To get the recordings on the computer, you can connect the headphone out to the line in (not mic in) on your computer, If you do not have a line in on your sound card, you can get an Xitel I-O port that works great.

What about the Sharp IM DR 420 that made you decide to go that direction?

I like several things about it. It has 2 levels of auto mic level and a manual setting. I have an older sharp 702 that still records good but the 420 picks up the sounds better. I am amazed how well it picks up acoustic insturments even when they are not played loud. I also like the Net MD functionality. You can't upload songs from the recorder to the computer but you can get info about the songs that helps when you insert the track marks on the computer. The 420 also sounds great when compared to other MD recorders that I have heard.
