I have a bit of cash to spend on a vocal mic and a preamp. I want a harsh grit vocal sound that doesn't hiss when there is silence. I don't want the mic to distort when I scream into it, I just want a very high level of warmth. Basically what I am asking is what is the most distorted yet under control mic/preamp setup?

Just a suggestion:
A Rode NT-1 and a Joe Meek VC6Q. Both are known for thier "warmth", and the VC6Q has a built-in compressor to control some of your screaming. It's also famous for that "British" sound. You can check out the preamp at... www.joemeek.com Happy Screaming! ![]() |
