Yamaha MG 12/4 routing

Okay, I know there's a way to do this or I wouldn't have got it, I've had it explained to me but waited to long to put it into practice. I'd like to record 8 tracks simultaneously. I'm using a delta 10/10, a DMP3 and a Yamaha MG 12/4. I know it deals with using the auxes and panning hard L&R but I'm a bit confused. I've also heard of tapping the inserts as direct outs but this was frowned on by others, who's tried this?

option 1:
The easy way to do it is to buy 8 1/4 TRS to mono 1/4 cable and come out of your inserts. You would put the stereo 1/4 TRS in the insert and the mono end into your recorder. Its a mono 1/4 to stereo 1/4 cable. (radio shack keeps them in stock. If you have to you can also use a stereo 1/4 cable and get a stereo to mono adaptor from radio shack.

Option 3: Buy a patch-bay and tap the inserts with a 1/4 TRS to dual 1/4 mono and into the patch-bay and then tap the patch-bay with a 1/4 to your recorder. You'll have to set the patch-bay so that the input signal is routed out to outs so you can return to your mixer and also send your recorder. I thing its called half nomalized I could be wrong on that one.

Option 2:
Channel 1 paned hard left
Channel 2 panned hard right
Channel 3 buss out hard right
Channel 4 buss out hard left
Channel 5 Aux 1 send out (make sure no other channels are on the aux mix and also aux send must be pre fader because channel 5 fader will need to be down)
Channel 6 Aux 2 send out (make sure no other channels are on the aux mix and also aux send must be pre fader because channel 6 fader will need to be down)


I don't have one of these boards I'm going off of a pic from the web, but I think I'm right. The buss send might have another name. Before I got my Soundcraft M8 with direct outs I used my inserts.

I have the Yammie 12/4, and here's how I would get 6 channels out of it:
Tracks 1-4 are all mono -- use the inserts.
Tracks 5/6, 7/8 are stereo. Send them both to the "Group Outs" (push the '1-2' button below the 'PFL' button). Pan one L, and one R, then run your last two cables from "Group Outs" on the back of the mixer.
And the last 2 channels obviously come from the DMP3.

Thanks for that one! I have own a Yamaha 12/4 unit & I've found it to be a great little mixer for the dough. Pretty darn clean sounding and it also has a lot of useful features. Agreed?

so if i have an RCA to quarter inch snake, could i plug it into the insert i/o plugs on my yamaha mg 16/4, and then plug the rcas into my delta 1010lt?

(dont have it yet...getting one soon though i think)

The manual was not much help and i'm still new to this. I want to be able to run my guitarists signal thru his effects box, so he can hear his effects while he's recording, but I want only to record the dry signal and add effects while mixing.
