ProTracks software

anybody have ProTracks software??? it's 'made' by Cakewalk, and came w/my Digitech-RPX400 guitar processor...it connects to my laptop via USB.
wanted to see if anybody had ANY tips/tricks that they'd like to share...the User guide (in box & on-line as well) both don't really go in depth on some of the features and I would like to find out as much as I can so can make decent sounding demos.

If so, my one concern is this:
If you plug your electric guitar into this effects processor which then runs directly into your computer, you would be recording an electric guitar direct, which in my very humblest of opinions, sounds like a bag of ass. I have never once gotten a decent result recording a nice overdriven Gibson Les Paul though a direct method. I have to mic an amp. Afterall, the sound i am after usually, comes from the amp speaker, not the effects box. If you are recording a clean guitar, however, you may get some gret results. I have, at lest. I used to run my fender though a DOD (also made by digitech but a cheapter company) and the results were pretty good.

Anyways, let us know how your progress goes.

You can't DI a simple overdriven guitar, the signal needs some sort of treatment. Well, you can, but as you say it'll sound awfull!

Get a POD or V-Amp and you'll be OK. Save your neighbours ears...



And if the DI-method works for kayaboy depends on what the unit acutally does to the signal...

right moskus, my apologies for the poor choice in wording. What i meant was that i never get a good sound when i am looking for a distorted, rock powerchord type sound. As opposed to clean, which i can fairly good sounds.

I'm kinda rigging it right now--as far as getting sounds recorded to the laptop...after installing necessary drivers/software still was not getting any sound from laptop(not even the tutorials)--onboard sound on laptop is crappy...so i plugged headphones into the processor and was then able to 'hear' what i'm playing/recording...
as far as the sound goes, it sounds sick!!! can dial up a whole bunch of pre-sets, tweak 'em a bit, etc.--and also comes with some sort of 'amp simulator' as well...
I plan on getting an Audiophile external soundcard, so I can 'hear' what's being recorded (and obviously for signal 'quality'), as well as MIDI in, MIC in, etc.
what do you think?
