New Pre!! Tell me if I'm crazy

I'm trying to get the most for my money. Here's what I'm going to buy.

Soundcraft E8 (8 clean channels + a mixer to boot)
Joemeek 3Q (for some color)

PS: Are the pres in the E8 the same as M8?

If I tap the inserts on the E8 am I still using the pre?

What do you think?

maybe you could call or check the soundcraft site. i was looking at the m series for live recording so im interested in knowing myself. i thought it would be nice to go directly into my consumer type cd burner being the m series has the digital out ( if its converters are any good?). i see mackie is supposed to have a new mixer with new nice mic pres too. i will probably wait a few months till the reviews come in.

The pres are not the same in the E and M Series. Soundcraft not only beats Mackie with better pres the Soundcraft EQ is great.

The pres in the M series where made by the guy how made the Ghost pres

If you hurry they may be still selling new old stock Soundcraft Folio F1 mixers on ebay for 220 bucks. They carry a JBL logo on them, but they're just rebadged soundcraft mixers. I just bought one, and last time I checked there were a few left, but they are being bought up quickly. I was also looking at the E8 until I saw this deal and figured I could get a better mixer for less $$$. Seems like a really good deal. Check it out.

Here's one:

I just bought a new Soundcraft M8 for $400.00 (I'm a Soundcraft dealer so I get some sweet deals). I think this will serve me well

Interesting. I was told by one of the head engineers at Soundcraft that the E and M series boards used the same pres . . . which are both based around those in the Ghost board. Hmmm.

I'll agree on the EQ. I think it's about the best thing the Soundcraft boards have going for them.

I just got off the phone with Soundcraft. The pres on the E series where designed by a different person. I was going to by the E series, but after that I bought the M since those are the pres that are like the Ghost

Wink

Deep, the "color" in the new Meeks comes mainly (as before) with the compression section, and (to a lesser extent) the EQ.
The pre is quite clean.

Going to be getting the 3Q shortly also BTW.

I have an M4 for monitoring in the studio. When I got it, the dealer told me the M Series pres and not the same as the E Series pres. There are other differences too that he mentioned, I just don't remember what they were now. I also talked to Soundcraft at one point, and the tech guy I spoke with also said the pres in the M Series are different than the pres in the E Series.

Shouldnt a dealer of a product know if the pre's are the same in one series vs another. And if not - shouldnt they have contacts at the company to call right away instead of posting on the HR Board? Just curious.

I just recieved it today. It's the exact same board as the spirit F1, no changes. It just has a JBL logo on it. I think the F1 sold for about $475 when they were still in production. This is an incredible deal for the money! I can't believe I got it so cheap! It was still in the factory wrapper untouched. If anyone is looking for a mixer they need to check this out. I think the guy still has some left. Just search for 'soundcraft' on ebay.

As a dealer I talk to the same tech people that you do and you would be surprised at the different answers. Then the sale people will tell you what you want to hear just to get you to push their product
