Easy peasey Vegas Question

I use Vegas 4.0 and I have wondered about the RIGHT way to apply an FX over a certain portion of a song.

I have used the automate function, but is there a better way using envelopes, events etc?

I just insert an FX envelope and adjust it accordingly. Don't know if it's the best way to do it, but something so easy can't be wrong.
