Egads! US-428 Help!

Hi everyone.


I'm having major issues with my US-428. After suffering a few problems after some storm-related issues, I finally got my drivers reinstalled and hooked up to record...and......no input signal. At all. Neither XLR nor 1/4 inch will put out any sort of signal. The interesting thing is that the actual unit has no problems manipulating and controlling my programs, but for some reason I cannot get ANY type of signal into it. Any suggestions? Have you changed your settings again in the program that you are using to record

I have, but considering it's partially analog, I should be getting SOME form of signal from the unit showing that something, whether it be a guitar or a mic, is plugged in, correct?

If your mic is hooked up through your 428 then yes the green led light should be on but you need to make sure that if your plugged into mic 1 or A don't remember which one it is I'm at work so can't look make sure the black switch is turned to that input and make sure that if you are running a condensor mic/meaning if your running through the xlr input that you have phantom power because if you have a condensor and no phantom power that is why you are not getting a signal (the reason why I am stating that is because I don't know what equipment you have and what knowledge you have)

I'm currently running a Shure BG 5.1 mic. I've experimented with other inputs, such as plugging into a 1/4 inch with guitar, or using my XLR to 1/4 inch adaptor to plug into 1/4 inch. No signal lights. I'm not totally sure exactly if I need phantom power for my mic, I can run it no-problem through all of my other friends' soundboards and through amps/PA's no problem. I'm hoping I'm just having a severe bought of slight retardation. Any ideas?

I haven't heard anything about that mic but you might need phantom power for it if it is a condensor because as you said you didn't need it with your friends some boards and everything come with it built in the 428 doesn't have a built in phantom power(one would only wish it did)

See, the thing is, this particular microphone comes pre-equipped to run solely VIA a AA battery slot inside it. That's what makes me so leary about it. Could it possibly be a driver problem? I'm doubting this because it runs any application I use it for, I just get me freakin' input. Any ideas? Thanks alot for your patience and help with me.

It has to be the mic have you tried using any other mic with it because if the play and stop ohhhhhhhh also in your windows sound setting you have to change the setting of the voice record to the same input let's say you have the mic in input a you have to change that setting to input a in the windows sound menu and also in the program that you are using as well and make sure the black button on the tascam is switched to the correct mic input

If you say it's an electret condenser mic, check to make sure you have fresh batteries. Also...did you have the mic connected to the Tascam when you had the storm related issues? Might have fried the mic....try another one. If you're not even getting any LEDs to light up and you know for sure you have the mic switch on MIC and the trim up...then it's not a computer problem. good luck.

Apologies if you already know this:

There will be no input if the input chan is muted or turned all the way down. When you press the "input monitor" button, the first four sliders work the monitoring levels of the inputs and the lit or unlit mute lights on 1-4 will show you what's going on with those inputs. AND the master vol slider seems to control mixing of inputs regardless of the "input monitor" button.
