Which software to try?

Doesn’t Sony have an “audio only” version of Vegas 5?

I want to record and edit multiple tracks but I have little or no interest in the video features. I also have little/no need for midi sequencing or looping samples either. I will just record live bands.

I do however need lots of routing capabilities and editing power.

Thanks folks!

hey! I plead ingnorance on this one, but I´ve used vegas 4 and it works fine. I know it´s got some odd features that might be useless, but, what´s the problem anyway? ignore them!
nevertheless, I suppose an audio-only version could do it for you. have you tried any other program btw?

There is no audio only version of Vegas any more (I think version 2 was the last).

Unhappy

I have tried a few demos of other multitracking software. They each seem to lack something that makes me keep searching.

Example, SawStudio can record straight to the multitrack or through the software mixer first and then to the multitrack. But it lacks the strong editing features and number of channels that Adobe Audition has. I love the editing interface of Audition but it cannot record through the mixer. I also would like to assign my master 2 mix to output to a track for recording, so that I can get a stereo mix w/effects (as well as 24 individual dry channels) while recording a live event.

Oh well. I just thought I would give Vegas a look and see what you guys were saying about it. Thanks for the help.

The audio portion of Vegas has stayed consistent pretty much since Vegas 1.0.
