External Hard Drive: White noise issues with CEP

Hi,

I hooked up a new external hard drive via USB2 and set my temp folder to point to this. I now get major problem when I record with CoolEdit as white noise is written to the track at certain times( about 80% of the damn time!!)

I moved my external m-audio usb soundcard as far away as possible from the drive as to minimise any electrical interference. Everything works fine when normal, ie using internal hard drive.

Anybody had this problem before? Are there any system settings I should be tweaking to get this fixed?
