Question for MR8 users

I'm brand new to recording and have a question.

I'm interested in recording acoustic guitar only and need to know if the MR8 has the power to run a condenser mic. Any suggestions on mics for me would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

mr8 question

no the mr8 does not have phantom power for condenser mics. I get a really great acoustic sound using AKG 1000CS which can be operated with a battery. I have also used MXL 990 with good results (for an inexpensive large diaphragm condenser.) I have a friend who uses a Shure SM57 and he gets great acoustic sound. I also use a Behringer UB802 mixer for the better preamps and 48 volt phantom power. good luck

phantom power

Get a mixer with a pre amp and phantom power. The UB802 ch mentions is only $50.00 and works great. And SM57 mic will fit your needs also. Depending on your budget that would be the cheapest way to go.

mixer good, maybe better than my Art V3 w/ presets for eq but small and handy. I use it w/ my V67 condensor, but it's a large dia. I'd like to try a nice small dia. condenser mic... but my v3 is only 1 channel so my acou. is mono. not sure if i next want the rack 2ch v3 or a mixer. choices choices.... but I'd also need another cond. mic, or 2 of the same. I think I'll try my 2 dynamics into it in x/y config to see if i like it and then not decide to get 2 condesors and a 2 ch phantom box or mic pre or mixer....
