Stagg mics?
Anyone have any experience with these mics? Overhead condensors and kick drums mics made by this company are being sold hella cheap on ebay...

I hope you'll get the image in this link. There are a couple of raving reviews in Dutch on that page, but a while ago someone had brought this mic with him to my place in order to compare it to a couple of other LDC's. IMHO the mic sounds horrible.

Okay, what i've heard from the mic I was talking about was so poor that I don't have any confidence in any Stagg mic.
The mic you're referring to is apparently a SDC or maybe a MDC for 34 pounds, which is some $60. There are a number of mics like the MXL603S for example, that cost a little more, but where many guys on these forums, who really know what they are talking about, are raving about. So why should you buy a microphone that ain't very popular, I mean, nobody is talking about Stagg mics here, and on any other forum that I visit regularly.

Are you in the UK? There are good mics available over here ... you just have to know where to look. ADK and SE Electronics do mics very cheap, Studio Projects are available for equivalent money to American prices which is *very* rare. Digital Village (www.dv247.com) is good, as is Academy of Sound for some things (www.academyofsound.com).
PM me if you want more details on good mics around ... Mark7 and CanopuS are two other Brits with experience of bargain hunting and Garry Sharp knows his stuff too.

Turnkey is the ONLY place to go for ADK mics in the UK (and I do mean that literally. They seem to be the sole UK retailer). Also, if you want a really cheap mic check out the Red5 Audio RV6 at only £45 or the TFPro TF27 at just a shade under £40, both of which have gotten some decent write ups from the folks on the SOS forums.

Yeah, im in the uk, any more details on stuff here is very much appreciated ^_^. Stuff im gonna need soon, an SM57 or two, pair of cheap(ish) drum over head condensers, kick mic, nice LDC vocal mic, pod pro(anyone know who sells this at a good price).
www.gak.co.uk is a good supplier of stuff in the uk if you english guys didn't know about it.

Well, for kick I'd steer you in the direction of the Audio-Technica ATM25. Not only is it £14 cheaper than the AKG D112 you were thinking of getting, but it's got less of a signature sound to it. For snare see if you can pick up a Beyerdynamic M201 off of Ebay. It'll cost a little more than the ubiquitous SM57, but you'll be griping less about the hi-hat bleeding into the snare track. You should be able to get one for less than a ton if you're patient. You can still get the SM57 and use it on guitar amps. As for vocals, an ADK A51 Type V from Turnkey for only £80 (£100 with shockmount) would be a good place to start. Though I must add the caveat that it may not suit your voice. Alternatively there's the Studio Projects C1, the Groove Tubes GT55, the SE Electronics SE2200, Red5 Audio RV8...

Dunno what the best dynamic for screamers is ... I suspect it may not be the Sennheiser because of the top end ... on the other hand, it may add exactly what you need. I love the E845 for my voice, and the E835 is great on snare. Digital Village have the deal of the decade on right now, Studio Projects B1, shockmount and the VTB-1 tube preamp for £139.99. Bargain!

my brother just bought his first electric guitar....he's 17 and now owns a STAGG gut.... well.....it suuuuuu-huuuuux but its fine for such a young dude, he doesn't know anything about sound quality, he's happy with it cause it looks nice....well, not in my opinion, it looks like a plastic toy and its heavy as hell ! so i can only assume that all their producs are like that, nice for beginners....i saw a few Stagg studio mics...."STUDIO" mics... mhhhh....what did i read ? $6 for a condenser... i'd rather pay $600 for a real decent one, one that i can keep for 3 years and then sell for about the same price....  so my point is...if you're real serious about recording... mhhh....don't use Stagg..... or am i wrong ? anyone who used more of their equipment and can proove me wrong ? would be awesome to read some "real" comments, cause mine are more like suggestions.... my two cents, cheers

Well obviously they're gonna be re-badged 'stock' ones ... we just don't know who's making them and to what spec - they could be identical to one of the other Chinese-made brands.

The good part about buying a Stagg microphone is that you're not investing a lot of money. I think you should go for it, then report to us how you like it. Maybe they have some unique characteristic that makes them perfect for something? Or maybe they suck.

Lol i think i'll steer clear of them. Yeah they are cheap but the ones i was looking at were still £35, people have made recomondations on mics on here for like £40-45, so i figured i'd ask. I'll save up and get some that i can be assured of a decent performance. Ive been told about lots of snare micing options but for now i have an SM58 which will do the job nicely enough. Im gonna concentrate on getting a nice kick mic (the atm25 sounds like a good bet) and some nice matched overheads. With these 4 mics i shall go forth and record ye olde drums...
After those mics the plan might be a nice LDC for vox which would perhaps double up nicely as an ambient drum mic out in front of the kit... I should probably get some nicer pre-amps than the ones in my behringer UB series mixer too lol as this will surely not do mics like the atm25 justice...
