What part of the mic is the capsule?
* Are capsules the sensitive part of a condenser mic that picks up the sound? * Do dynamic mics have capsules? (Or just coils?) * Do ribbons have capsules (or just bits of foil)? |

I think the capsule refers to all of the key components of the mic assembled together. I guess a comparable word would be 'enclosure'. Coil, magnet, wires, diaphragm's, foil etc, depending on the type of mic of course.
The diaphragm is the sensitive pickup in condensers. I'm pretty sure all mic's can be refered to as having a 'capsule' of some sort. |
