micing acoustic guitar

I remember reading how to mic an acoustic guitar (in this BBS?), but now that I'm ready to do it, I can't remember or find where I read it. Someone want to help me out? I'll be using a TASCAM 488 and have two SM-57's and an SM-58.

When I was in your position I did a series of recordings using first one mic only (SM57 and two other condenser mics) and then pairs of mics in all the various combinations. I burnt a CD of it and listened. The tracks using two mics were clearly superior to the tracks using just one mic. I always record using two mics nowadays. For that reason, I'd recommend your doing the same with the two SM-57s. I'd experiment with the positions to find what sounds best with your guitar and room. Having said that, here's what I do: two mics about one hand apart, about half a foot in front of the guitar, about a foot above the sound hole, one angled toward the sound hole, one not. But I'm using condensers, which are more sensitive, so you might want the Shures closer in to the guitar. Other people talk about one mic about the 12th or 14th fret, etc. Play around, put it to the test.
