Cool edit pro 2 crashing TOO MUCH!

this is annoying the crap out of me, i have a dell 2.0GHZ p4, winXP home,
when im recording useally CEP is the only program running, ill be recording, it will be fine, but often ill hit stop, or play, and it will freeze for a few seconds, then crash. sometimes it will allow me to recover, sometimes no.

does anyone else have thease problems? is adobe audition a little more stable? is the upgrade from 2.0 to AA free?

I had that happen when I first 'upgraded' to AA 1.0, so I went back to CEP 2.1. I was told it may have been due to not completely purging my registry of anything related to CEP before installing AA. I have no idea if that was right, but when I moved up to a new clean (new) computer, I installed only AA, and I haven't had any problems.

It could be just about anything, I think. Drive errors, bad RAM...even your video card (update your drivers if you can). But I don't think it's the software, or everybody would be screaming about it.

Good luck.
