can you explain?

Hello,

Wow the place looks different since I was last here!

I'm using a 10voiced chorus on a vox track. It will play ok unlocked but when ever I lock it, it stutters at least once. That's ok since I thought I would go ahead and just "burn" the effect to the track in edit but when I do I get a clipped track. There is no clipping in mutitrack view. I might add that I do have compression and eq on the track as well in multitrack. What is causing the clipping? Will I have to burn all the effects, comp./eq/chorus. Or could I just reduce the amplitude of the track until it quits clipping? It is pretty hot, @ -1.5db.

Thanks,
Rusty K

What am I thinking?

Of course I would have to "burn" all the effects in order to get the correct rack order.

If you have applied a lot of EQ you may have a band that is clipping but not showing up on the meters. Most likely you can lower the overall level until it doesn't clip. I use the Effects/Amplitude/Amplitude and reduce the entire waveform by -1 until it all works.

lpdeluxe,

Yes I thought of reducing the amplitude but I still don't understand why it should be clipping in Edit but not in multitrack. I haven't boosted any eq just cuts. Maybe it's the compression keeping it in control in multitrack. As far as I know there is no clipping on the original track but I will double check.

Thanks,
Rusty K

As I understand it, Multitrack view and Edit view function as if they were two different independent programs. That is, if you insert effects in the Multitrack, they do not appear in the Edit view. Edit view does not playback through the mixer or mix busses. It just sends audio straight out to your sound card.

In Edit view, you are hearing an un-compressed playback and in Multitrack view, you are hearing a compressed, playback. The compression is preventing the clip from occurring.

If you save a wav file in Edit view, it does not retain the realtime effects that were applied while in the Multitrack. But that’s okay. You don’t mix down from Edit view anyway. As long as you save the session in Multitrack view, your effects rack will be saved as well.

Multitrack and edit view can even have different playback devices selected.

Anyone else??? Agree or disagree?

I'll take a shot. There could be any number of things getting the peaks of that file down in your multitrack session (like the master fader, the track fader, any compression on the track, etc.).

I probably don't understand your question, but if would be interesting for you to do a mixdown of the track WITHOUT the chorus on it, then apply the chorus in the edit view and see if it clips. I'm just curious. It seems like there have been times when I'm running stuff in the multitrack that I know SHOULD be clipping that aren't.

Sorry I've been out of pocket for a day or two.

Chris,

I didn't even think of the master fader. I don't think I've ever used it in "edit" view. Give me some time to check it out and I'll get back. Heck I'll just "mixdown" the track by itself. I had subscribe to a related thread sometime back about using "mixdown" to write the track effects on the selected track.

I wonder if could be something specific to the chorus plugin? I know that plug is cpu intensive cause I've had some trouble in the past getting the effect to playback cleanly sometimes. I think I'll go to the Adobe forum and see what they say about it.

i think it could be your sound device. i had the same problem. i just changed the sound device on the track that had that problem.click on the track that has this clipping.then change the out put and in put device.that should do the work.

no its because you probably have multitrack in 32bit mixing mode which doesnt clip. I suggest you record and process all your files in 32bit wav.
