monitor question

i have a M-audio audiophile soundcard..i'm looking to get monitors to record..do i need a powered monitor to amplify my sound if i'm gonna connect them to the outputs on my soundcard?..what other options do i have...i'm looking to spend around $200 for monitors (i guess that limits my options)

For $200.00 you don't have many options. go with powered monitors they're your best bang for the buck. You might want to search ebay for a used pair of Events for something. If you could cough up another $100.00 you could get the Behringers for $300.00 which rock for $300.00. I own a pair of the KRK RP8's, but they cost $500.00

Yes....you need active montiors or passive ones with a power amp! Your card does not power anything!
