Yikes cool edit help please!

hey all, usually after I mix a song down I listen to it in the windows media player. on the bottom of the player it usually says that the song is playing at 128k/second. now today i was mixing something down then listened to it in the media player it sounded like it was underwater. then i looked and it said that the song was playing at 40k/second. it makes no sense to me because i didnt screw around with any of the settings, unless it was one of my family members. now i have no idea how to set it back if it was even touched, any ideas would help me out alot
thanks guys
joe

Are you talking about listening to something you mixed down with Cool/Audition?

Are you creating a mp3-file of the mixdown? Why?

The problem here is your mp3 compression settings, they are to low!
