Working the CD Burner

I've been trying for a while to get the CD Burner in Cool Edit to work. I have an internal CD-writer (the kind you'd get as standard on an average PC nowadays) and I've never had any problems writing with it before using programs like Windows Media Player or Easy CD. In Cool Edit, it won't get recognised as a piece of hardware. I've tried everything I can think of.
